The Name of the Rose

Synopsis

In an Italian abbey in 1327, Brother William of Baskerville's religious mission is interrupted by a series of deaths. His investigation leads through manuscripts, symbols and the abbey's library, where questions about knowledge and belief meet a murder mystery. Originally published in Italian in 1980, Umberto Eco's independent novel combines historical fiction with an inquiry into how signs are interpreted.
